East Ayrshire Community Hospital
Ayrshire and Arran Primary Care NHS Trust was one of the first Trusts in the health service to procure this type of contract as a PFI scheme. It was concluded that a single site Community Hospital would best meet the needs of the residents of the area East Ayrshire (Cumnock, Mauchline and surrounding areas).
The Trust entered into an agreement with a consortium led by BAM PPP for the provision of a 98 bed Community Hospital in Cumnock, Ayrshire. The consortium designed, built and financed the hospital and currently provides all non-clinical services.
A new community hospital of 6,900 sq m floor area provides 50 continuing care and respite beds, 24 GP medium acute beds, 24 place day hospital and capacity for treating 28,000 outpatients, is a fully serviced facility together with a café area set off the main street of the building.
The development is designed in such a way as to move away from the traditional institutional aura of some older healthcare buildings by creating a more domestic atmosphere within the internal layout.
BAM PPP continues to work closely with the Trust, in conjunction with BAM FM, at operational level, to deliver the managed services within the hospital which are:
- Building maintenance
- Grounds maintenance
- Patient transport.
